DENTAL FAQS IN OWINGS MILLS, MD

Read answers to these commonly asked questions to learn more about your dental health:

WHY SHOULD I VISIT THE DENTIST IF MY TEETH FEEL HEALTHY?

Although you may brush and floss daily and do not have any tooth or gum pain, it’s still a good idea to routinely visit the dentist. Sometimes at-home oral hygiene isn’t enough. During dental cleanings, we use special tools to remove hardened plaque from the teeth and gums. It can be easy to miss bacterial buildup in your mouth. We also take x-rays which can see problems within the tooth, gums, and jaw.

SHOULD I GO TO THE DENTIST IF I’M PREGNANT?

Some patients may think that it is unsafe to visit the dentist or undergo procedures if they are pregnant. However, the majority of dental care is safe for pregnant patients. We also recommend pregnant patients visit for cleanings as they can be more prone to gum disease.

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO REPLACE MY TOOTHBRUSH?

We recommend that patients replace their toothbrushes every three to four months. Over time, the brush bristles can wear down and become less effective. Bacteria can also build upon the brush.

SHOULD I BRUSH MY TEETH BEFORE A DENTAL CLEANING?

Yes, always brush and floss before you visit our office for routine cleanings. Cleaning before your appointment helps our hygienists provide you with a deeper clean.
